Mormyrids generate weak electric organ discharges used for navigation, communication, and prey detection in the turbid, low-visibility waters of African rivers. The rostral extension in <em>Campylomormyrus</em> species is notably pronounced, functioning as a probe to extract invertebrates from soft substrates. <em>C. alces</em> is a freshwater species whose distribution is associated with major African river basins, though further locality data are limited.
