Campylomormyrus alces

<em>Campylomormyrus alces</em> is a freshwater fish of the family Mormyridae, the elephantfishes, a group endemic to sub-Saharan African river systems. Growing to approximately 36 cm in length, this species shares the characteristic elongated snout and complex electrosensory system that defines the mormyrid family. Mormyrids generate weak electric organ discharges used for navigation, communication, and prey detection in the turbid, low-visibility waters of African rivers. The rostral extension in <em>Campylomormyrus</em> species is notably pronounced, functioning as a probe to extract invertebrates from soft substrates. <em>C. alces</em> is a freshwater species whose distribution is associated with major African river basins, though further locality data are limited.
