A flathead fish with unusually large scales from Indo-Pacific shallow seas. Lies camouflaged on sandy or silty substrates and ambushes passing small fish and crustaceans.
Physical Description
Coloration
Pale brownish-tan to sandy body with large scales that each bear a dark center producing a reticulated pattern; flattened head with a broad duckbill profile; belly pale; fins with sparse dark spotting.
Habitat & Distribution
Shallow sandy and silty marine substrates in the Indo-Pacific at depths of 5-100m. Coastal and continental shelf habitats with soft sediment.
Distribución Geográfica
Eastern Indian Ocean and western Pacific, known from coastal marine areas around Indonesia and the Philippines. Inhabits sandy benthic habitats on the inner continental shelf at moderate depths in tropical Indo-Pacific waters.
