A medium-sized freshwater bream (up to 50cm) native to the Aral Sea basin. Deep-bodied with silvery scales; historically important in commercial fisheries, now critically depleted due to the Aral Sea's catastrophic shrinkage.

Coloration
Silver to grayish-silver flanks with a bronze-olive sheen on the back; scales have dark margins producing a faint reticulated pattern; deeply compressed body; belly silvery-white; fins dark gray to black.
