A freshwater bream from river systems of the Arabian Peninsula. Has a deep-bodied, laterally compressed form typical of the genus. Freshwater species of conservation concern in arid regions.
Physical Description
Coloration
Silvery to pale golden-yellow body with an olive-green back; scale margins slightly darker giving a lightly scaled appearance; typical levantine cyprinid form; belly pale silvery-white; fins clear to pale.
Habitat & Distribution
River systems of the Arabian Peninsula and adjacent Middle East. Inhabits perennial and seasonal freshwater streams in arid to semi-arid regions.

Known from the Tigris and Euphrates river drainages of Iraq, including freshwater tributaries in the Mesopotamian lowland region. Inhabits slow, turbid lowland rivers and irrigation channels of the ancient Fertile Crescent.
