Alburnus atropatenae

<em>Alburnus atropatenae</em> is a small freshwater fish in the family Leuciscidae, endemic to Iran. The species name references the ancient region of Atropatene, corresponding to the northwestern part of modern Iran, suggesting its distribution in that area's river drainages. It is a slender, silvery fish typical of the bleak group, with a laterally compressed body and a slightly upturned mouth suited for surface feeding. <em>Alburnus atropatenae</em> likely inhabits the flowing freshwaters of lake outflows and river systems in northwestern Iran, possibly including tributaries of the Caspian Sea basin or associated inland drainages. Specimens are reported to reach a maximum length of approximately 14.0 cm. Like other members of the genus, it presumably feeds on small invertebrates and surface insects.
