Mogurnda aiwasoensis

The <em>Mogurnda aiwasoensis</em> is a freshwater fish in the family Eleotridae, the sleeper gobies or gudgeons — a family of bottom-dwelling fishes closely related to the gobies but distinguished by having separate rather than fused pelvic fins. Adults of this species reach a maximum recorded length of approximately 4.06 cm. The genus <em>Mogurnda</em> is distributed across New Guinea, northern Australia, and associated Pacific islands, typically inhabiting shallow, clear freshwater streams and rivers with rocky or gravelly substrates in lowland and montane settings. <em>Mogurnda aiwasoensis</em> is named for Aiwaso, reflecting its likely association with a specific locality in Papua New Guinea or the surrounding region — an area of extraordinarily high freshwater fish diversity and endemism.
