Evermannella ahlstromi

The <em>Evermannella ahlstromi</em> is a saltwater fish belonging to the family Evermannellidae, the sabretooth fishes — a group of mesopelagic and bathypelagic predators named for their distinctive, fang-like dentition adapted for seizing slippery prey in the open ocean. This species has been recorded at depths from the surface down to approximately 390 metres, placing it primarily within the mesopelagic zone where light penetration is minimal. No maximum body length data are currently available in the literature for this species. Evermannellids are characterised by large eyes adapted to detecting bioluminescent signals in dim oceanic waters, and their elongated, recurved teeth enable them to grip and retain prey captured during rapid strikes. Details of habitat and range for this species remain limited in the ichthyological literature.
