Synodontis albolineatus

<em>Synodontis albolineatus</em> is a freshwater catfish belonging to the family Mochokidae, commonly known as squeaker catfishes due to the sound they can produce by stridulating their pectoral spines. Members of the genus <em>Synodontis</em> are native to African river systems, and this species inhabits freshwater environments with a maximum recorded length of approximately 17.2 cm. Details of habitat and range for this species remain limited in the ichthyological literature. Synodontis catfishes are a favourite in the African cichlid aquarium hobby and among general catfish enthusiasts, appreciated for their attractive spotted or striped patterning, hardiness, and entertaining upside-down swimming posture seen in several species. <em>S. albolineatus</em> would benefit from an aquarium with a sand or gravel substrate, rocky cave structures for shelter, and subdued to moderate lighting. African rift lake water chemistry — moderate to hard, alkaline water — suits many Synodontis species, though some adapt to softer water. They are omnivorous scavengers feeding on algae, invertebrates, and sinking pellets. Temperatures of 23–28 °C are appropriate. They are generally peaceful with fish of comparable size.
