À propos
Akysis galeatus is a small freshwater catfish classified within the family Akysidae, comprising torrent catfishes native to stream systems across South and Southeast Asia. This species typically reaches a maximum recorded length of approximately 2.81 cm, consistent with the diminutive body size characteristic of most Akysis species. Members of the genus are strongly adapted to rheophilic conditions, exhibiting a dorsoventrally flattened body, spine-bearing fins, and a distinctly roughened integument that facilitates adherence to rocky substrates in swiftly flowing hill streams and upland tributaries. Akysis galeatus is thought to occupy benthic microhabitats among cobbles, pebbles, and gravel beds, where it seeks shelter from current and forages for small aquatic invertebrates and particulate organic material. Nocturnal activity patterns are typical of the genus, with individuals becoming more active during darkness when predation risk is reduced. Details of habitat and range for this species remain limited in the ichthyological literature. The Akysidae family is taxonomically complex, and several species formerly grouped under broader diagnoses have since been separated into distinct taxa as knowledge of the group has advanced. Akysis galeatus has not been formally evaluated for conservation status, and its full distributional extent remains to be established through systematic field surveys.
