The African chimaera (Hydrolagus africanus) is a deep-sea saltwater cartilaginous fish found off the eastern Atlantic coast of Africa, growing to 67 cm. Like other chimaeras, it has large eyes, a smooth body, and a venomous spine at the front of the dorsal fin.
