A small, venomous scorpionfish of the Indo-Pacific with bright red coloration and scattered blue-white ocelli, often called the redskin waspfish. Inhabits sandy and muddy shallows; ambushes small invertebrates.

Reddish-brown to rust-red overall coloration with a distinctive large white or pale blotch on the mid-flank; skin has a leaf-fish texture with dermal fringes; compressed body mimics dead leaf appearance.

Geographic Range
Western Pacific from southern Japan, the Philippines, and Indonesia south to northern Australia and the Solomon Islands. Found on shallow coastal and reef-associated sandy and muddy substrates from the intertidal to 50 m.
