Restricted to the Siang and Subansiri drainages of Arunachal Pradesh in the eastern Himalayas — upper tributaries of the Brahmaputra — Aborichthys kempi is a hillstream loach of swift, cold, rocky forest streams. It reaches about 8 cm. An olive-tan to brownish, eel-like body carries eight or nine dark transverse bands and a pale ventral surface, cryptic against the gorge substrates it lives on. The species is placed in the family Nemacheilidae, order Cypriniformes, and has no recorded food use.

Coloration

Habitat & Distribution
Rivers of Motuo (Mêdog) County in eastern Tibet/Arunachal Pradesh. High-altitude, swift, cold rivers; among the most remote habitats of any Aborichthys species.
Geographic Range
Restricted to the Siang and Subansiri river drainages in Arunachal Pradesh, India, which are upper Brahmaputra system tributaries. Lives in fast-flowing rocky hill streams in the forested foothills of the eastern Himalayas.
