A weighted fishing lure with a lead head and a hook, often dressed with a soft plastic body or skirt. Jigging involves bouncing the lure vertically to attract predatory fish.

Ausführliche Erklärung

Jigs are among the most versatile lures, effective from freshwater bass fishing to deep-sea swordfish jigging. Lead-head weights range from 1/64 oz (ultralight trout jigging) to 300+ grams (deep-sea speed jigging for amberjack and tuna). Soft plastic trailers imitate shrimp, crawfish, baitfish, or worms depending on target species. Metal butterfly jigs with asymmetric flutter actions are used in deep-sea jigging. The jigging cadence (lift-drop rate, pause duration) is critical — research on vertical jigging for tuna shows that flash rates of the descending lure trigger strike triggers. Bucktail jigs (dressed with deer-hair or synthetic fibers) are classic inshore lures for striped bass, bluefish, and snook.
