The sixfinger threadfin, or moi in Hawaiian, was once reserved exclusively for Hawaiian royalty. Its six free pectoral fin rays act as sensory organs. Today it is successfully farmed in Hawaii and prized for its delicate, buttery flesh.

Indo-Pacific from the East African coast and Red Sea east to Hawaii and French Polynesia. Inhabits shallow sandy and muddy coastal areas, surf zones, and estuarine margins; especially common in Hawaiian nearshore fisheries.
