The wahoo, Scomberomorus commerson — also widely known as the narrow-barred Spanish mackerel — is a large, fast-swimming pelagic predator in the family Scombridae. Reaching up to 240 cm in length and 70 kg in weight, it is one of the fastest fish in the ocean, capable of bursts exceeding 75 km/h. Found in warm neritic and oceanic waters, it occupies depths from about 10 to 70 metres and frequents habitats including open pelagic zones, coral reefs, and estuarine edges across the Indo-Pacific, Red Sea, and eastern Atlantic. As a premier game fish, wahoo are targeted by offshore sport anglers worldwide; high-speed trolling with lures, rigged ballyhoo, and skirted bait are among the most effective techniques. The flesh is firm, white, and mildly flavoured, making it a prized food fish, though larger individuals may carry elevated ciguatoxin risk in some regions. This species is assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
