The Sarmatian bleak, <em>Alburnus sarmaticus</em>, is a brackish-water fish in the family Leuciscidae, notable for its tolerance of saline conditions. This species inhabits estuarine environments, where fresh and saltwater mix, and is associated with the brackish coastal waters of the Black Sea and Caspian Sea regions, consistent with the ancient Sarmatian geographical reference in its name. It is a slender, silvery fish with a laterally compressed body and an upturned mouth well suited for surface feeding in open water. Specimens can reach a maximum recorded length of approximately 25.0 cm. <em>Alburnus sarmaticus</em> likely feeds on invertebrates, surface insects, and small organisms drifting in estuarine currents.
